The 97 is a 4 candlepower bulb in the G6
bulb, with a C2V filament. The 1095 is a 4 candlepower bulb in an S8
bulb, which is quite a bit larger, and uses the C6 filament, so its bright spot
is in the same location as the 4 CP filament in the 1157/1034s that are in the
other sockets. Thus, while the amount of light emitted is
the same for the two bulbs, the appearance at night may be different. The
97’s bright spot is 7/16th of an inch further away from the
lens, so the optical effect may be quite different than that of the other 4
bulbs. If this substitution isn’t satisfactory on a 68, you can
always change to a dual filament socket and install 2 more 1157s, wired so that
the 4 CP filament lights with the tail lights – this will look precisely
the same as the original 1095s. Dick Benjamin (still dazzled by the 6 new
1157s (192 candlepower!) shining through the NOS lenses on my “new”
67!) From:

Behalf Of BOBSMOPAR Hi all. A while back there was talk about the center 2 tail lights
being to bright and that we needed 1095 light bulbs. After searching every part store in town I have found out
that they do not make these light bulbs anymore. So I bought a set of number 97 light bulbs and put them in
and now I have all the lights in the back all the same brightness. Hope this helps anyone else that has this problem with there
67 or 68. Bob Hanekamp I will be coming back to |
