Shucks - Back to the drawing board

Well by now you guys are probably thinking I'm a real ding bat mechanic. I'm beginning to wonder myself??? I got LeRoar put back together and I took plenty of time. I was as careful as possible. I even wasted one head gasket to see how it was sealing. I fired it up and it smoked quite a bit but mostly just from the passenger side. Also it began to drip a significant amount of water from the pass side exh header collector. It wouldn't idle and the vacuum was low, still.

Last time this head was on the driver side and that collector had probably a quart or more of water in it upon dis-assembly. I used the Fel-Pro composite gaskets this time and I am sure they seal well if the surface is flat. I did put a straight edge on the heads and block and didn't detect an issue there. I think the heli-coils on the water jacket bolt holes of the suspect head may be an issue for the water in the collector. I will pull the plugs tomorrow and see if the cylinders are water logged or not. I do not believe the heli-coil problem will produce water in the cylinder as it's on the outlet side. Gravity and compression are both working against it.

I may just have to tear it completely down and check everything over. If so I would re-ring it and replace the oil pump and bearings, providing that is doable. I can't use my old heads with this cam as the springs will bind. I checked it already. I will have to consider my choices and it may be time to retire from the go fast crowd and build a street/hiway cruiser. I did intend to do this eventually but I sure would like to give this set-up a chance to run at the track. It sure felt good the 2 weeks it ran before the water problem. I can re-install my old cam and then the old heads will work. Old is just terminology. They have less than 5K miles on them and have the hardened seats and springs to match the 264 cam I used before. I'd install the 7503 Weiand manifold and a 650 Eddy in that case. I just happen to have them on hand.

My preference is to solve this issue and see what LeRoar can do with this nasty combo. It would be fun but then there's that darn "Murphy's Law" out there!!
