i bought a 360 engine and tranny from my buddies salvage yard that came from a 1973 c bodie one owner car that had the 727 attached to it from the factory

Don: I think you are right about the early A318's, but later LA 318 engines were almost always tied to a 904.

Even 340 and 360's had mostly 904 transmissions in the 70's with the LA engines. I think this engine was ID'd as a 1975 LA 318. Good engine, but pretty pedestrian.

The small block unit was call a 727-A and the big blocks were a 727-B. Seems to me that was cast in raised letters on the bell housing.

If I'm not mistaken, almost all 318's came attached to a 904. HD Police, taxis, etc may have come with a 727, but most others should be a 904, especially the newer ones (1977).
