You had to specify heavy duty transmission to get the 727 (optional
extra-cost) in the later years, but that option also included 1965
with the LA moter.
Heavy duty was the magic word.

Don: I think you are right about the early
A318's, but later LA 318 engines were almost always
tied to a 904.
Even 340 and 360's had mostly 904 transmissions
in the 70's with the LA engines. I think this engine
was ID'd as a 1975 LA 318. Good engine, but pretty
pedestrian.

I know the '65s 318s were attached to a
727. Pretty sure they were identical to the
ones on the B/RB engines expect for the
obvious different bell housing bolt pattern.
The small block unit was call a 727-A
and the big blocks were a 727-B. Seems to
me that was cast in raised letters on the
bell housing.
