What cylinders are weak? Blown head gasket if they are adjacent. Burnt valves - had that happen to a car and under anything but the slightest acceleration, it back fired. Lastly, if the ignition module was bad, why would it only affect the one three specific cylinders. I'd eliminate that as a problem.
