Re: Jacking safely

Many years ago, I also witnessed that happen, luckily no injury but very scary. Personally I pull tires and lay them flat under the hubs for extra insurance and if it falls, at least hopefully the wheel will keep it off the ground. A few months ago I took the drums for my 64 440 in to get turned. Apparently at some year prior to my ownership the car had fallen off jack and drum couldn't be turned as it had flat spot. Not easy to locate an 11" police drum either! Presently I am cleaning under my car in prep for undercoating. It's easy to get it to rocking when sanding etc. and forget about the rolling or falling part! Ruth                                                                   Tue, Jul 12, 2011 at 9:24 PM, Walter Hodges <redbaronpdx@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Yup,  I was a young, know it all 15 y/o pup jacking up my first vehicle ('48 chevy truck)  and watched
in disbelief and horror as it slid off the jack.   No Physical harm done, thankfully, but it sure got my
attention about how quickly things can go wrong.   Jackstands all around.

Thanks for the cautionary note.

At the risk of stating the obvious, once you get it up, put a pair of
good solid jack stands under the frame.  Don't rely on the floor jack
only to save your life and limbs.
