Gary H.,
Thank you for your feedback to Knud-erik. I was not aware of his goals
either. My choice for the 360 was based on his distance and the
cost/availability of parts shpg. overseas or parts availabililty in his
area.
If the 360 he has needs HP mods and the 361 already has them, like a four
barrel...then a simple "overhaul" of the 361 or doing enough to make it
roadworthy is the way to go.
If both engines need HP mods then I would probably lean towards the 360 for
simplicity and ease of maintenance...as outlined in my first e-mail.
Of course, if period correct originality is higher on the list than High
Performance (yes, the 361 will have sufficient HP/Torque w/the four barrel
as equipped stock) then I think the choice should be for the 361.
Perhaps Knud-erik can fill us in on the goals.
Take care,
Gary Pavlovich

Good points Gary.
It is unclear to me if the goal of Knud-erik is high performance. If so, a
hopped up 360 is a good choice. Mopar Action did a similar build on a 1962
Plymouth using a 360 FI engine and were blown away with the results; they
loved it. To me that configuration is a modern street rod. (Note: no bow
tie 350 in sight!)
On the other hand, the stock 361 with a 4bbl will provide provide plenty
of butt torque and move that Sport Fury effortlessly. 361 is a baby 383 in
effect. Big block torque comes naturally. :) The heads can be reworked to
use unleaded. TTI headers will work well. The 361 car is period correct.
Built right, either motor will be very reliable.
Just my 2 pennies.
I can't help him with finding a flywheel but maybe someone here can.
Thanks,
Gary H.

My opinion/suggestion is to build the 360 if you want Horsepower/Torque,
reliability; build the 361 if you want a challenge and uniqueness.
Reasons why to build the 360;
High Performance parts are easy to obtain and less expensive than a 361.
There are many HP recipies where you can choose your performance level;
ie.
4" Stroker crank with W-2 heads and roller cam will get you 500torque &
500HP.
Any fellow Hot-Rodder or mechanic can work with you and help you maintain
or
do mods without guesswork because of the 360's commonality and performance
record.

... which one is the best to use in the car, the 360 is apparently a
k-code, meaning very little to me. With casting #418496.2.360
Additionally the heads on the 360 can use unleaded, however I will need
to
get the flywheel balanced, I am looking for the best solution and not
necessary the most original one, the 361 is somewhat 100 kg more. But
has
more power, the heads need leaded gas though. And then I have some
magnum
exhaust manifolds for the 361. And only originals for the 360, I do not
think that I have enough knowledge to make the proper choice! I need to
make
a decision as I am about to by a flywheel either for the 360 or 361, by
the
way does any one have a flywheel for sale?
