By rights, if that cheque was certified, no one should have taken off with the funds, and the account should not have been closed until that cheque cleared. Otherwise, which is the big deal about certifying a cheque?
The last time I wrote a certified cheque (I think $200) my bank froze $200 in my account. Until the cheque cleared my account balance was always $200 less than it really was.
The bank did a similar thing when I deposited a cheque from an American firm. The bank froze the amount of the cheque in my account for 28 banking days. As as banking days are Monday to Friday, except holidays, I had those funds on hold for over 5 weeks. I think cheques from outside of North America are held even longer.

I have recently run into this same problem in selling some parts to an overseas buyer. His bank would not do a wire transfer without an account number. The buyer and I have since resolved the issue and his parts will be going out in the mail today.Don bt6t4@xxxxxxxxx wrote:My g/f is a credit manager and wire tranfer is the only way to go.Once the money is wired it's locked into where it's sent.George --- On Mon, 7/21/08, Dave Walters <whdavid@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:From: Dave Walters <whdavid@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: Any checks instant?
