Title: Re: [FWDLK] dual points or electronic?
Yes.

I put three orange boxes into my 1973 Dodge Van before I gave up and put a
points style distributor in it.  It was under warranty at that time.
I would rather use a aftermarket box than another Mopar one.
The Echlin boxes haven't let me down, but I haven't bought one in
quite a while.
The box only died by refusing to start.
It never died while driving.

Like Jim said, they work or they don't.  The switching transistor just gives up.
The pickup coil in the distributor can be tested.
The ignition coil can be tested.

Like the stock market, current performance is no guarantee of future returns.

I've got nine messages, saved, on the subject of electronic ignition
systems (versus points-
system).

The gist of the comparative analysis seems to be : E.I. will operate
flawlessly, and maintenance-freely, and provide better mileage and
performance, than a Points-ignition system, but can/will fail without
any warning (and at the worst-possible moment), whereas a Point-system
will perform OK, but will operate progressively-worse, but should not
catastrophically  fail.

There also does not appear to be any practical
way to test the operating-health of an E.I. system.

Is that about it?
