Went to look at a '65 Crown Coupe this afternoon. It's currently residing in a relatively clean barn, but suffers from typical, if not a little worse, Michigan rust. It was originally a light green but appears to have been repainted in a teal similar to the color I remember on Dad's '67 Pontiac company car.
The car was driven to it's current resting place 3 years ago, and reportedly ran well. Mileage is approximately 130K. It has a white leather interior with high-back seats (a few splits here and there), and a decent black vinyl top. AM/FM, power windows, vents, driver's seat... actually quite well appointed, with one notable exception - air conditioning. The interior is mouse-free, probably due to a cup with moth balls on the passenger floor. All chrome is reported to be there, and what I saw was not badly pitted. The floors seem solid, but I could not get into the trunk. The front fenders, rockers, and rear quarters, however, need large quantities of new metal. That said, a welder and time I have.
I'm at that "I-need-another-project-like-I-need-another-hole-in-my-head" stage, but I really love the two door body and the small back window. And it would look great parked between the '63 and the '68.
I told the seller I'd take it, after promising that it would either be restored or properly parted, and not "derbied" (he brought it up!). Question is, is this car a "find", or a good candidate for a parts car?
Thanks,
Steve Charette
