Some 77 and up 440's are not good over .020 but most are good for more. If they are sonic tested for wall thickness many can go more than .060. I have a close friend that has a 78 440 in a drag car, it is bored out .100 and it only needed 1 sleeve to go that far. The bores do not shift with sleeves after the engine has been thermo cycled. This motor developed 746HP on the dyno and has had no problems. You do need to sonic test the blocks before boring over .020 which is an expense, plus if they need a sleeve, that is an extra expense. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chad Brown" <clutchfan2001@xxxxxxxxx> To: <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 5:04 PM Subject: Re: IML: Thin Walled 440's > I happen to have that same book. > > > --- Leo Jormanainen <lexa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hi, > > > > How to Rebuild Big-Block MOPAR Engines by Don > > Taylor, > > pages 51,52 and a Caution on page 69.
