44 Fuel pump off... uh oh

One trick no one's mentioned yet is to park the car on
a slant.  As I recall, the rod goes in at an agle, so
making that side of the car higher should reduce
gravity's tendency to pull the rod down.  With gravity
out of the way, it will stay in its hole better,
giving you, the frustrated repair person, more time to
get the pump on.
