Hi all, Kerry certainly choose the right word when he said "plundered". Thanks to Kerry's great hospitality, GENEROSITY and willingness to trust a total stranger - my '73 is now restorable, another restoration "saga" begins, and another Imperial rises out of the dust (or should I say rust). As I told Kerry's wife when I arrived, Kerry has become an IML "idol" of mine (one of several) over the few months I've been on the list because of how closely I could identify with his '73 restoration project and because of how much experience and knowledge he has on the subject and just about anything else to do with Imperials. And I have to say after spending a day with him in his shop "plundering" the '72, I was not disappointed! I was amazed at how quickly the work progressed, but with the hydraulic lift and all the air tools & hand tools that Kerry has, I can see why things went a fast as they did. I am happy to report that I arrived safely at home last night around 11:00 pm. It was 1,925 mile round trip starting Wednesday just after lunch and ending Saturday just before midnight. I had never pulled an enclosed trailer behind my little 2.0 liter fuel injected Ford Escort before and was fairly concerned whether I would ever make the trip home without having to travel no faster than 45 mph (as the sticker says on the back of the trailer) or without burning up my automatic transmission. It turned out my fears were groundless, and I was really pleased with the way that little car pulled the trailer. On level ground with no significant head wind I could do 70 mph and stay in overdrive! Mind you, I got 39 mpg on the way down (no trailer) and 21 mpg on the way back, so that little four-banger was working its heart out. This was the first time also that I'd ever rented any moving equipment, and I must say it is a wonderful service that U-haul (and others) provide. I picked that unit up in Huntsville AL and will drop it off in Oshawa, Ontario at a cost of $150 ($90 US.) Very, very convenient. Kerry's subject line sums up very nicely what the IML is all about - friends and fun. You could also add sharing and helping to that description. I'm feel fortunate to be a part of it. Hey Kerry, thanks again. Jim Stacey '73 Lebaron 4dr (with no vent windows) in 1000 pieces Near Toronto -----Original Message----- From: KerryPinkerton [SMTP:pinkertonk@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: February 8, 2002 6:05 PM To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: IML: Imperial Friends and Fun Well Today was THE Day. Jim Stacey drove all the way down from Toronto to North Alabama to bring me the folding top mechanism from a 69 Chrysler that a guy in Toronto donated to the 57 Imperial Roadster cause. In return, Jim plundered the 72 parts car for his 73 in pieces. About 7:30 Jim pulled up pulling a small UHAUL (4x4x8) behind his Escort. About 8 hours later he left with both front fenders, rear quarters, front wheel wells, rear bumper, the gas tank, and a much of little stuff. His UHAUL is full to the brim. There is not much left of the 72. I will probably pull the dash, doors and front clip and haul the rest to the scrap metal man. If anyone needs any trim, glass, etc, let me know. I'm going to sell my 73 so I don't plan on needing any spares. It was a fun day but I'm Whupped as we say in the South. Jim is headed north and will spend the night in Bowling Green Kentucky. Jim's a great guy and I'm looking forward to seeing his 73 back on the road. Btw, his 73 has NO vent windows. I knew there were power and crank vents (I have power) but had not heard or seen of no vent windows before. Does anyone else have that configuration?
