OK, I've done my research, and I need to add to what I've been saying regarding fuel hose usage: 30R7 is OK up to 50 PSI, but it does not have the resistance to the newer added chemicals that 30R9 has. 30R9 is good up to 180 PSI, so from a pressure standpoint, either is acceptable for any Imperial (but see below!). However, for safety, surely it is worth the extra expense to use the 30R9. The mode of deterioration you will see with 30R7 or earlier compounds is that the hose gets brittle and cracks, causing liquid fuel leakage. It also allows a higher penetration through the walls of the vapors, which could be a problem in severe environments (like explosive conditions). One further fact is that neither of these is suitable for use in a direct immersion situation, such as you would have with an in-tank fuel pump. For this, you need 30R10, a still better grade of hose. It is possible that I am wrong about the pressure rating of 30R9 - I will check on that. I was under the impression that it was simply made from an improved rubber compound to cope with the modern oxygenated fuels they sell in California and now in some other states (thank you again, EPA!). I don't know why the store would have labeled it "EFI" hose - but I wouldn't take that as authoritative. Some cars with in-tank pumps have pressures around 100 PSI; I'm pretty sure that takes very special hose, and I don't think that is 30R9, but I do need to do some research on the subject. Regular was $2.65 9/10.) --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus] ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
