RE: IML: 1960 transmission woes

Donn,

For transmission parts in Dallas, I've always never had a miss at
Repco Industries
2425 Irving Blvd
Dallas, TX
(214) 583-9100

If they don't have it, I bet they can get it, and I bet a TON more
reasonably than what you're quoting. That's where I'd start.

I've also used
Wade Transmission & Gear Co
2222 Sylvan Ave
Dallas, TX
(214) 747-4868

But I've only used Wade's for manual transmission parts. Not sure how
they'd be on automatics, but hey, any port in a storm.

Also, I've heard of, but not used, Fort Worth Gear & Axle:

I googled and came up with this place. They might be pretty expensive,
but you just never know:

Here's Kanter's page:

It's unusual to have to replace the whole pump. Ordinarily, you just
change the bushings, which are sold by just about everybody listed
above. Get him to show you exactly why the pump is bad. If he shows
you wear on the bushings, then hmmmmm...... why isn't he just suggesting
replacing the bushings? That's ordinarily all that ever wears out. But
"ordinarily" is my caveat -- I'm not the one standing there looking at
it. :-D

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I just got the report back from the transmission shop and they say it's
basically shot. I need several new hard parts, especially a new new
front pump ($500 from his source).

I'm going to go check out everything and talk to the mechanic, get the
parts list and shop around on my own. Has anyone had recent experience
with any of the parts shops listed on the site?

The total on the parts from his supplier is $1800 + shipping to
Alaska.....plus laber of course.
