RE: IML: Edelbrock Carburetor linkage

Jay,

You may not want to fabricate, and this may not work for your car, but
consider it for a minute....

I added a Quadrajet (and I love it!) when I built a strong 318 for my 67
Barracuda. I used a stock spreadbore intake from a 360, and used my stock
linkage from the 273 Carter two barrel.

I had my choice of correct shifts and no secondaries, or correct WOT and
shift points around 5 and 10 MPH, with no kickdown.

I knew the transmission was initially correct, so should still be correct.

The bellcrank - the point of pivot for both the throttle linkage and the
kickdown - needed to generate more travel for the throttle linkage per
distance traveled by the kickdown linkage. No amount of adjustment on
either side will allow that.

I removed a section, about 3/8 inch, from the arm to which the kickdown
linkage connects. That changed the ratio of distance traveled by the
throttle and kickdown linkages. It gave me those huge secondaries, and
shift points in the proper range. I have since done the same on two others,
with good success. A little careful grinding and painting, and it is very
inconspicuous.

I know you are working with a big block, but this might be a solution. You
need to do some calculating, or have a spare to ruin. Or if you measure
first, you can always return it to the original configuration.

Oh, one of the cars I've modified this way does have the Edelbrock "AFB."
Works fine.

Good luck.

Michael
