Hi fellas,
I would like to add to this thread that Mopar lower ball joints can have freeplay and be fully functional and safe according to Chrysler. If I recall the joint can have up to .070" play before deeming it worn out. I believe this info is in the service manuals.( I checked my 1968 Chrysler SM to confirm and even my 1976 SM allows .020" for the upper service limit. ) That doesn't mean you can't replace them but, you could save the money! FYI

Yes, you can purchase just the rubber seals. The tie rod or ball joint must
be unbolted to to get the new rubber on.

That reminds me to ask what is the easiest way to check to determine if ball
joints are bad? Tips?

And if the ball joint itself is good but the rubber seal is deteriorated
from age, can you replace the rubber or do you need a whole new ball joint?
