Gary,The best way to determine if the ball joints are bad is to jack the front end off the ground until the tires clear a couple of inches. Put a pry bar under the tire and pry up on it. Visually look at the ball joint and see if there is movement in the joint itself. There should be none. Yes, you can purchase just the rubber seals. The tie rod or ball joint must be unbolted to to get the new rubber on.

1964-1976 Plymouth Valiant. The disc brakes have been adapted from a 1976Volare. At first I started out to just replace the upper A frame bushings but it has snowed balled into completely re-bushing the entire front end. This includes the upper A frame, LCA, strut rod bushings, shocks and new torsion bars. All of the ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. are good.
