This seal prevents air passing through the grill from passing over the top of the support helping to direct it through the radiator. There is an extension flap which prevents air that has passed through the support from traveling up and over the tank again helping more air to pass through the radiator. After installing my new seal I cut away this flap since my electric fan seals to the radiator 360* and is not needed. For my 2 cents, this seal, factory 2 piece metal fan shroud, factory 7-blade fan, is the best set-up for cooling with a stock radiator.Nick TiberioFuryUs63From: "Steve Mick" <micher@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Nick, do you have a pic that shows the two seals-flaps you are talking about?..............................MO----- Original Message -----From: furyus63@xxxxxxxxxxxSent: Monday, February 10, 2014 6:31 PMSubject: Re: Support sealJay Rod,I have to agree with Paul. You know both of my '63 Plymouths and here's what worked for me. My Max Wedge car had a stock radiator, no fan shroud and a 4-blade fan. The car would run on a hot day 190-200, but when I stopped it went to 210-215. My 318 Fury was an A/C car so I took the stock 2-piece metal shroud and the 7-blade fan from the Fury and put them on the Sport Fury, that's it. That change dropped driving temps on hot days to 170-180, and when I stopped, maybe 185-195. The best part was when stopped all I had to do was rev it up a little and watch the temp gauge go down. That factory setup worked the best. As for the radiator-support-to-hood rubber seal it will always help. The purpose of it is to prevent moving air entering through the grill to pass over the radiator support into the engine bay. By blocking this space it redirects the air to pass through the radiator which is now pulling more air with the shroud and larger fan. You will also see in addition to the seal to the hood a flat extension covering the gap from the radiator support to the radiator tank. Does the same thing, directs the air through the radiator instead of up and over the tank.As soon as the weather warms up we'll get together and take a look at it. I'm retired now and have an open schedule.Nick TiberioFrom: "Paul L. http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/ml-lennemann63.html" <pjlenn@xxxxxxxxx>

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but don't look for it to help much with your engine temp. I have one on my car and nothing I have done has helped. With or without electric pusher fan, higher capacity water pump, and aforementioned seal. I think a fan shroud probably gives the biggest bang for the buck.Paul L.
