The tech page has one possibility. Search for the bullet point that starts with: "A wobbly speedometer needle is
sometimes caused by the speedometer cable. If there is a kink in the inner member, or both the inner and outer
members, the inner moving inside the outer acts kind of like a cam, as the inner and outer kinks align, the cable is
relaxed....."
