no actually I contacted him through ebay, but since it was about him rebuilding a tranny for me he said he didnt want to use the ebay store route as
   ebay frowns on that. He gave me an alternate email for non ebay stuff
   I will see if i can find it

The tech page has one possibility. Search for the bullet point that starts with: "A wobbly speedometer needle is
sometimes caused by the speedometer cable. If there is a kink in the inner member, or both the inner and outer
members, the inner moving inside the outer acts kind of like a cam, as the inner and outer kinks align, the cable is
relaxed....."
