Re: [Chrysler300] Gasoline Odor?????????

Tom;

If you have gas leaking from the tank it will show at the little plug that
is located in the middle of the tank . If it is wet you got a leak, and will
need to screw it out with an Allan wrench when the tank is near empty and
cut yourself a new piece of rubber to fit on it. If it is not leaking there
then you can be getting fuel fumes into the car , threw the rubber neck
grommet. It is located right below the filler and is about 1/2 inch thick
and runs completely around the neck of the tank. If it is near worn out you
will get a gas smell in the car threw the trunk . Thirdly if you fish
yourself under the car you will notice a tube heading from the front center
of the gas tank into the body . it starts off usually with a bit a rubber
then converts into a steel gas line , if it leaking you can have two
problems.. one it is leaking around the 3/8 rubber connection or worse
around the filer neck of the tank as it enters the gas tank . The piece here
is a grommet that is forced on to create pressure on the tank. the more your
turn the top flange in, the more it seals, of course bearing in mind that it
also has a small rubber , or material gasket between it and the flange.
there is no air vent in a 59, and you will find that out when it vapor locks
on occasion . when it won't start either , take the gas cap off and let a
little air in or hire me to come to your city and I will do it for you for a
beer and airfare .

Hi Everyone in Chrysler Land!

Have a 59 E I bought restored some several months ago. Just got around to
filling up the gas tank for the first time (boy, that wasn't cheap)!!!!!
Anyway, when I got home, parked her in the garage, and came out the
following
morning, I smelled a very strong gasoline odor! Suffice it to say, I have
no
intention of lighting a cigar out there! Any thoughts or suggestions?

Tom
