Hi Everyone in Chrysler Land!

Have a 59 E I bought restored some several months ago. Just got around to

filling up the gas tank for the first time (boy, that wasn't cheap)!!!!!
Anyway, when I got home, parked her in the garage, and came out the
following
morning, I smelled a very strong gasoline odor! Suffice it to say, I have
no
intention of lighting a cigar out there! Any thoughts or suggestions?

Tom

Group,

I'm looking to purchase exterior door handles/housings for my '57 300. The
pits in my current handles are bad enough but multiple stress cracks make
replating pointless. Hoping to find better than what I have.
The part #'s on the back of the housings are 1707382 and 1707383.

E-mail me at kraus300@xxxxxxxxxxx

Many thanks,

JIm Krausmann

I'm guessing that the majority of our 57-59 have poor door handles on the
exterior. The first guy to repop these should have a sellers market for
quite
some time.

Hi Folks:

I am replacing the Cam in my F and the folks at Crane have 3 to select

I am not looking to RACE my F so what I need is the Mopar Part # for the
original factory installed cam. Can anyone advise me of the #?

Congrats on purchasing a great car.
Besides checking the obvious 'fuel tank' , check the short flexible hose
from the tank to the steel line. A crack in it sometimes doesn't show up
until the tank is full. Also check up front where the flex line jumps from
the frame to the fuel pump, and check the fuel pump itself to make sure it
isn't leaking, either externally or has a cracked diaghram and is leaking
gas into the oil pan. Besides the fire or explosion hazzard, this can
dilute the oil and damage the bearings. Pull the dipstick and see if you
can smell, or even taste gas in the oil, and if so replace the fuel pump
and change the oil and filter before running the engine
Be very careful to ground the car frame to the ground before draining the
tank. I lost a car many years ago from static electricity while draining
the tank to install an electric fuel pump as a pusher near the tank.
Good luck
Okie Bob

Tom......according to my '60 parts catalog, the camshaft p/n is 2129203.
The
'61 ram cam is the same p/n.
BTW, the Club generally has F & G camshafts exchange for $75. Have you
tried
that source?

I don't know about '59 gas tanks, but my 66/300 gas tank has a vent tube
that protrudes up from the front of the tank (near the rear axle). If I
fill
the tank and drive directly home (less than a mile) and park in my garage,
the tank inevitably overflows thru the vent tube. On a hot day, obviously
due to more expansion, I can get quite a puddle under the car.

I've learned to drive around a little before returning home. At 8 MPG, it
doesn't take a very long drive.

Hate to Harp on this BUT while you are checking the Rubber parts of your
fuel
delivery system, PLEASE think about replacing at least ALL the hose parts
with NEW Fuel injection rated Rubber Fuel Line rubber. It is not because
of the pressure but because of the GAS itself, some modern formulations
have been known to EAT up the OLD stuff.

If like my B you will have a couple of hoses coming off your gas tank, one
of which ties the gas filler inlet to the tank itself and a somewhat
smaller
hose. Also if you lift up your trunk carpet, you would see a plate
screwed
onto your tank that allows access to the fuel sensor which activates the
dash fuel gauge. Anyone of these could be leaking.

I found on my B the first time that I filled it years ago that I ended
with
a puddle of gasoline under the gas tank. The fix was the fuel sensor
plate
seal.

Also check where fuel line from engine goes into the tank.

Tom;

If you have gas leaking from the tank it will show at the little plug that
is located in the middle of the tank . If it is wet you got a leak, and
will
need to screw it out with an Allan wrench when the tank is near empty and
cut yourself a new piece of rubber to fit on it. If it is not leaking
there
then you can be getting fuel fumes into the car , threw the rubber neck
grommet. It is located right below the filler and is about 1/2 inch thick
and runs completely around the neck of the tank. If it is near worn out
you
will get a gas smell in the car threw the trunk . Thirdly if you fish
yourself under the car you will notice a tube heading from the front
center
of the gas tank into the body . it starts off usually with a bit a rubber
then converts into a steel gas line , if it leaking you can have two
problems.. one it is leaking around the 3/8 rubber connection or worse
around the filer neck of the tank as it enters the gas tank . The piece
here
is a grommet that is forced on to create pressure on the tank. the more
your
turn the top flange in, the more it seals, of course bearing in mind that
it
also has a small rubber , or material gasket between it and the flange.
there is no air vent in a 59, and you will find that out when it vapor
locks
on occasion . when it won't start either , take the gas cap off and let a
little air in or hire me to come to your city and I will do it for you for
a
beer and airfare .
