   Hi Paul,
           A good inexpensive temporary "fix" would be to disconnect the 
leaking cable at one end and slide a length of 5/16 rubber fuel line over the 
entire length of the cable and lock it up with a hose clamp on each end.  Take it 
a step further and use some shrink tubing over the actual area with the hole 
for extra protection.

       This will hold you over until you can order a new cable and get around 
to changing it. Come to think of it, it's been years and I havent gotten 
around to changing mine yet.
