Lou, It will probably be much easier to deal with a change in speedometer gear than find the right axel ratio. In any case, you can either replace the speedometer gear or use a ratio adapter to correct any ratio error. A ratio adapter is a tiny gearbox that fits at the lower end of the speedo cable. They can be made in any custom ratio you need. You can get a ratio adapter from Imperial Services. http://www.imperialservices.net/ Dave Homstad 56 Dodge D500 -----Original Message----- From: Forward Look Mopar Discussion List [mailto:L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Lou Sent: Saturday, May 08, 2004 4:14 PM To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] Where to get a 3.31:1 ratio 8 3/4" rear diff assembly? Ayone know if there is a place to get an assembled rear center section for a 8 3/4" rear with 3.31 gears? I had another mopar tech expert test drive my car today, and he thinks the vibration I have could be coming from either the rear diff assembly (bearings, etc) or the rear transmission bearing. So now I am doing research into parts availability and pricing in anticipation of having to replace stuff. Given the cost of getting someone to tear into the rear assembly for rebuild, and the scarcity of parts for the original foward look center section, it was recommended to me that I might just want to buy a complete assembly (later model 742 rear) and swap it in. The thing is, it doesn't look like you can get the 3.31 ratio that my car currently has (and I'd rather not have to pick another ratio and then deal with the speedometer gearing issue). Does anyone know where I could get a "new" 3.31 rear assembly (in the event that I need one)? If I am going to get into this thing, I just as soon go new if possible. I've tried some retail sites like summit, jegs, etc, and precision gear, motive gear, and richmodn gear's web sites....no 3.31 ring and pinions even available. Regards, Lou
