Its been my experience in 56 if the car had the smaller brakes you had bolts and the bigger brakes had nuts. The rear differentials I've seen in 6 cyl cars had bolts and v8 cars had nuts.

wasn't the switch from lug bolts to lug nuts a change that occurred between the '55s and the '56s?

The studs and lug nuts are a lot easier to put a wheel on, don’t know why they ever used lug bolts.   Never seen a car with mixed drums; if someone has that setup maybe some drums were switched or possibly the whole axle.
