I had an orange box fail on the way home from
Carlisle this year. I always carry a spare and the 2 minute change out
made it a non issue. This was not without warning as the car had been having
running issues for a couple of weeks. The long run on a hot day finally caused
it to fail completely. These things really don't like heat, and unlike I had
been told, they are not like "light switches" either working or not. They will
fail intermittently and gradually before they die completely. I didn't try it
but I wouldn't be surprised if that box would have worked after cooling off.

I learned my lesson with my '58 Fury, it has an MSD ignition and one
night in Jersey the box went bad, fun ride in a flatbed home. I've also had the
Mopar "Orange" box in the '57 fail me but I learned many years ago with the
Mopar electronics to carry spare boxes and ballast resistors. When I redo my '57
I'm putting points back in it, not really possible with the Hemi in the Fury, it
needs all of the spark it can get.
