Derby guys used to use type F in "our" transmissions. Always said they'd "grip" better. I don't know if that's folklore or fact.
Very true.  Trans guys I know say that F-type was formulated when Ford had an abnormally high failure rate of their transmissions due to clutch pack failure. The Ford trans couldn't handle the torque.  The F-type provided a large amount of the friction additive. That is why all 300 club trans rebuilders recommend it due to the additional clutch disk and quicker shifts provided when a true 300 trans is rebuilt correctly. I have been using F-type in all of my Torq flites  for a number of years with no issues.
