Neil:

     If it pulls to one side, the problem may also be that one of the wheel cylinders is leaking.  I had a very touchy situation at Carlisle this year with a leaking right hand wheel cylinder.  Stopping was a real challenge.  I nursed my 56 Fury home and replaced the seal in the leaky cylinder and replaced all four front shoes before it would stop smoothly and evenly.
