[FWDLK] 1959 Dodge Ignition Resistor Question

For 1959, it seems that the Ignition Resistor is mounted to the Generator Regulator. I have one from a parts car and I am curious if it can be used on my running car. Is there a way to test it to know if it is good? Is the same type available today as a replacement? What have others done?
