    There was a machine called a tire matcher that put a load load on a tire
on a roller to sense high spots and hard spots that were sanded or ground to
make the tire roll smoother, I saw one in Victorville, California about ten
years ago but I think they had stopped using it by then and wanted to sell
it. There were also machines called tire truers that just made the tires
round, I'm not sure what they took the excess tread off with though.
