Many years ago, I owned a 1939 DeSoto. It had an overdrive and it was one going machine. I used to race it on Hwy 80 between Sacramento and Travis Air Force Base. This was in 1952. It outran everyone it went against. I had a friend with a 1948 Mercury and I outran him in second gear overdrive. I was doing over 90 mph when I pulled away and we both slowed down. He never heard the end of it. This was in my younger days! Naturally, I've always had a warm feeling for DeSotos. If someone had a 39 for sale, I would probably buy it.
