I changed the regulator in the driver's door on my '62. It took about two hours. As you say, it all comes apart very easily, and the parts are available. The teeth on the "arm" in my car were also broken off at the end where the window is in the "up" position. This "arm" is part of the window regulator. The regulator will fit out of '60, '61, '62, & '63. I don't know if 1960 Sedan regulators are the same as Southampton ones, and I don't know about'57-'59, but 1964 through '66 are definitely different. The motor separates from the small gear assembly at the rubber coupling. The small gear assembly can be taken apart, cleaned, and re-lubricated. This small gear is usually not damaged, but rather, as explained above, the teeth on the large "arm" do break/wear off. It is also possible for the mounting holes for the small gear assembly to become stripped, causing a loose fit between the gear and the teeth in the regulator arm. I think this is what leads to the teeth on the arm disintegrating in the first place. These holes are also part of the regulator assembly, so changing the regulator will solve all of these problems. Both the broken "arm" teeth and/or the stripped gear assembly mounting holes will cause the window to make a banging sound when it reaches the end of travel, or even while in motion. If the window is making that noise, it is probably one or both of these two things. The job was easy, but be sure to read the Shop Manual on how to change the window regulator. I believe it is in the "Body and Sheetmetal" section. It was very specific about the spring tension, and explained how to avoid a problem with it. If not done correctly, it can hurt your hand.
