I had the four-wheel air ride removed and replaced with coils and struts on my '91. I am 100% satisfied with the exception of some squeaking that I will address the same as with any other conventional suspension. Quality of ride is excellent. Just make sure you have your wheels balanced and a proper alignment a couple hundred miles after the suspension geometry is changed in any way. I say a couple hundred just to give it time to settle.
I have a brutal commute on a twisting mountain freeway, and high-speed turns are the norm. I have gas adjust shocks in the rear, and handling is firm and safe even without autoleveling. For the last two weeks I have been carrying my hefty tool box and jack stands in the trunk with no change in handling. If anything, it hugs the road more.
I don't know what your budget is, but it will cost you close to the price of installing a single new air bag if you want to use all new conventional suspesion in the front. I have used parts, as do many others who have made the same conversion. The advantage is, of course, we don't have to worry about the second air bag going out, or, in our case, the third or the fourth.
