bulbs for '68 taillights

Do the lamp sockets unplug from the wiring harness right at the socket? On the 60, the wiring unplugs directly from the socket. I discovered that the terminals are both the same & if you reverse the wire, both bulb filaments light at the same time. I discovered this one evening while looking in the rearview mirror that the brake light on one side wasn't coming on. After a little investigating, I discovered that reversing the plug fixed the problem. If yours will only plug in one way, this wouldn't be the problem.

How about a 94 bulb.   I found one reference that said they were the same.  Also if you can't find the proper bulb you could replace the sockets and use 1157 bulbs then only wire the lower brightness filament to come on.
