Hi Jay,
Your '73 should have a fusible link attached to the
smaller of the two wires coming from the positive
battery post -- check that one.
Also be sure to check that the smaller ground wire
coming from the negative battery post is still
securely attached to the fender. Otherwise, your
entire dash unit will be trying to find a ground
wherever possible.
I'm sure others on the list will have good suggestions
as well, but these are a couple of simple places to
start.
