Hey Mark,
Lincoln and Cadillac both introduced an ABS system in
1970 that operated on ONLY the rear wheels. The
SureBrake system, designed by Bendix and introduced in
1971 on the Imperial, was indeed the first FOUR wheel
ABS system on an American car.

It is indeed rare. And it's one of those options that
works great when it works, but if it ever breaks down
(pardon the pun), you're in for a headache.
There's a good bit of information on the SureBrake
system in comparison with the Lincoln and Cadillac
systems in the Road Test review of the '72 Imperial on
