Hey Mark, Lincoln and Cadillac both introduced an ABS system in 1970 that operated on ONLY the rear wheels. The SureBrake system, designed by Bendix and introduced in 1971 on the Imperial, was indeed the first FOUR wheel ABS system on an American car. > I haven't seen the Chrysler units. And it's one of those options that works great when it works, but if it ever breaks down (pardon the pun), you're in for a headache. There's a good bit of information on the SureBrake system in comparison with the Lincoln and Cadillac systems in the Road Test review of the '72 Imperial on our site at http://www.imperialclub.com/YearbyYear/1972/magazines.htm.
