The electroluminescent system operates the illumination of the display of information on the gauges, not the innards of the dash gauges themselves. The testing methods are not affected by the type of display illumination, and our previous statements are still in effect. Grounding the tank or other sending unit wires for a few seconds will not hurt anything -just don't leave it grounded with the key on for more than a few seconds. This is to see if the display unit goes to full scale - if it does, your gauge unit and regulator are fine. If it doesn't, you know where to look for the cause (behind the dash instruments). As someone has already mentioned, if you make contact with the 250 volt AC terminals while poking about behind the dash units, you are likely to regret it!
