Were the throttles fully opening? Did you try bigger jets for richer mixture at WOT? (that would not help fuel economy though). Or, may be it was too rich. Did you ever have black smoke with the Carter? That Holley may start leaking again. If not, disregard the above! Also, the electric choke may be better overall, since you can turn it off a lot sooner than the spring will allow you. You can keep your oil cleaner at the expense of driveability when cold. These are not insulating! Then again, they are not doing much harm either. If you have space limitations due to hood interference, the insulation may be more effective if you replace the 3 metal plates with 3 more gaskets! D^2
