> Do you have a Holley > carburetor? Thought so. For years, everyone I knew trashed Holleys. I've heard numerous epitheths spewed about these carburators, everything from the amusing to the profane. My personal favorite: "The Holley Carbura-toilet" <--I guess this has something to do with the massive sucking of gasoline that occurs during hard acceleration. Anyway, when I bought my '67, it had a 4160 Holley on it. I replaced it with a Carter from Summit, but was unimpressed. Performance was not as good, gas mileage remained unchanged, and I had to run a wire to operate the now-electric choke. I rebuilt the Holley last Christmas, and reinstalled it. MUCH better performance, and I've registered mileage as high as 16 mpg on the open road cruising with my lead foot. The only remaining problem was the fuel vaporization problem mentioned before. The TQ (thermoquad) solves this issue by virtue of its phenolic resin base, which insulates the carburator from the intake manifold. My solution was to install 3 metal plates sandwiched between 4 carburator gaskets, thus creating a miniature radiator under the carb. During really hot (95 degree plus) days with the A/C on, the idle is still a little rough, but its much improved. ===== --Mike Pittinaro Piles of pitted chrome Hubcaps along the floorboard My junkyard-bedroom __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
