For the last four years I've had this idea of pulling a Air Stream behind our
cars and going out to visit the high-ways and by-ways around Colo (three
states this way and three states that way). I want a dual axle not over 27'
and no newer than early 70's.
Airstream creature comforts came a long way in the 70's, so you may want to look at a few different year trailers before deciding. I have a 1977 31' Airstream Excella 500 that I tow with my '78 NYB. It makes a great combination going down the road, but the cruising range is awful with the 6-8 mpg when towing. I found the proper hitch through IML afew years ago. You will need a very healthy hitch to do the job, plus the usual trans coolers, heavy duty radiator, etc if you get serious about it.
I had originally planned to get a 60's vintage Airstream, but fell victim to the lure of lots of creature comforts. I am not saying that is what you should look for, but you may compare the different possibilities before deciding. Best of luck in your search.
