Nope, sorry. If it were the ballast resistor, the car would start, but then
stall as soon as you released the key to the "run" position.
I'll bet you a week's pay that your problem is an oxide coating buildup on
your points. Take off the distributor cap, borrow a steel nail file (not an
emory board!) and draw it between the movable and fixed contact on your
points a few time, slap it back together and Bob's your uncle!
