Hi Mark....someone may have already suggested this to you regarding testing the Starter Relay.....have you tried 'shorting' the two larage terminals at the starter relay to see if the starter will crank??? I had a similar problem with my '66 ( had lots of electrical Gremlins!) and I found that if i 'jiggled' the wires going from the Starter Relay to the firewall the car would start just fine! Turns out I have (what appears to be) a loose wire or short somewhere in the wiring harness going from the engine compartment into the Instrument cluster.......an IML member suggested that I run a wire from the OUTPUT lead of the Alternator to the Starter Relay and then try starting the car....IT WORKED FINE!!! There is always the possibility that the 40+ year old wiring harness and especially the connections at the firewall-connector are loose or corroded so don't rule out something like this as the problem just yet! Hopefully that 'headlight test' someone suggested will tell you if the starter is drawing WAY too much current !! Hopefully its just a loose wire someplace that you can find and correct without spending any $$$$$$....!! Good Luck!
