The Duesenberg crash took place not far from where I
live in Ypsilanti. ?Everyone's very sad about the loss
of life and about the loss of a virtually
irreplaceable car.
When I get an Imperial it will have been built after
seat belts were mandatory ('67 or '68 in my case) but
if I got a pre-'66 car (I think that was the first
year of the federal seat belt requirement) I would
definitely have a good set of belts properly
installed, at the very least in the front seats.

It's true that Volvos are some of the best cars to
be in if you are in a
collision. ?IMO, they have to protect their
occupants better than most cars

likely to be involved in a
collision. ?This is a damn shame, regardless what
they were driving. ?These
were needless fatalities due to the complacency and
inattention of one
individual.
The Duesy would have no doubt been restored to
original specs but the
addition of seat belts would have been a good excuse
to deviate from factory
spec. ?I'd think that I would have gone that way.
I'll have to remember my
little speech when I restore my 51 Imperial.

Some of you may have already seen or heard about
this tragedy in Ann Arbor,
Michigan. ?The car was worth more than any of our
Imperials will ever be,
which is not to diminish the values of the lives
lost. ?Buckle up, if you
can!
