I agree 100%.  In reality however, the majority in our society don't have a 
reasonable level of common sense.  It is that group who make laws like 
seatbelt laws a necessity.  Some people need protection from themselves.

There is no difference between this and "Friends don't let friends drink and 
drive.".  We must protect those around us who are prone to poor judgment. 
Some people need laws to make that happen.

I agree.  It's not the government's job to force us to protect ourselves.
Our own good common sense should do that for us.  But this is not the forum
for that discussion.  Just my $.02 worth.

  I do not believe in the seat belt law. It should be left up to the
individual not mandated by the government. My 1962 Imperial did not come
equipped with belts and I won't put them in.
