If it does not get any louder, it's likely an exhaust leak. If you move away from the engine toward the rear of the car so there's not so much noise, listen for a pfft pfft pfft pfft in time with the tick tick tick tick. This sound will not get louder as the RPMs increase. That's why it's so noticeable at idle. When you first start the car and the choke is on, you should not be able to hear this as well. When the car is warmed up and at low idle it seems louder because there's less engine noise. Also warmed up and at low idle, you may be able to smell exhaust fumes in the engine compartment. Since your mechanic just did a major tuneup, you may want to extend yourself a little more and have the exhaust inspected and maybe some parts/gaskets replaced. It's a quality of life issue with a great deal of impact on the way your car performs, looks and sounds. In other words, the reasons we drive Imperials.
