Brandt,
Tell us, how did the brake vacuum booster repair go, or has it been done
yet?
What did the warden at the jail-repair shop do to cause your car to idle
high? Did they monkey around with anything in the engine compartment? Are
the accelerator linkage return spring(s) connected properly or is a vacuum
hose caught in the windings of the return spring? Did the car idle high
when you got it out of the shop and did it idle high when at a stop light on
your return home? Is the butterfly flap for the choke stuck closed so that
the car is on high idle? The chug chug chug at motor shut down sounds like
an excess of fuel predetonating in the combustion chamber, ie dieseling.
Sounds like the choke is stuck shut or they got some vacuum hoses wrapped
around a return spring. Just a guess.
You sure are getting a good virtual ASE education out of this car. Congrats!
Fortunately, these cars are bare bones basic in terms of automotive
technology, save for a couple of high tech items 30 years before their time,
like the EL dash lighting, signal seek radios, etc, so most things will be
easy to remedy with some attention, and they are an excellent example to
learn on. I mean, why would one waste their time on a Che... I mean a brand
X??? At least when a repair is done, it's exceptionally rewarding in a car
like yours.
Please, give us an update on the repairs that we've recently had the
opportunity to comment on.

Hey group...I noticed that there are those of us that mostly contribute =
information and those of us that constantly rack your brains for =
information like myself. I'm trying to gain general automotive knowledge =
and not just imperial knowledge so I tend to ask pretty generic =
questions. I would love to be a quadruple certified ASE technician but =
that aint goin to happen. The only formal training I have is a beginning =
high school auto class and that was about 6 years ago. I just get mad at =
myself for not knowing things about my Le Baron.
Anyway I just got my 1963 Le Baron out of jail (the shop) and after I =
have driven it and i put it back into park the engine races and then i =
go to shut off the ignition and it goes clunk clunk clunk before the car =
shuts down. What the hell is this? Ive never had this problem before! I =
hate not being an expert in this subject. I remember I rebuilt the =
engine myself and then i tried to hand turn the crankshaft and it =
wouldnt budge. so I took it in to a shop and told me I had practically =
put the whole engine together backwards...dammit I love auto mechanics =
but I dont know relativley much about it.
