I am sorry but I did not state that the rebuild cost $5000, I said that a brand NEW replacement from Chrysler cost that amount. The rebuild cost was around $3500 dollars most of that cost being in parts since it had a flywheel detonate inside and the oil pan was full of nuts, washers, and ground metal. Aside from the mechanical parts there were some electronic parts that needed replacement and recalibration. We looked high and low for a good used one and could not find one so my mother had no choice but to spring for a rebuild. Had we found a smashed 95'-99' Intrepid I wouldn't be bringing it up now. We are getting off topic here, the issue that I was raising had little to do with the transmission itself, it was the price of this used Imperial in relation to the potential costs one should incur after putting it back on the road. I will say this, there is an annoying tendency by many out there, including on the IML, to skim over rather then read a posting and respond to items out of context. I only hope, for their sake, that they refrained from this habit the last time they read and signed a legal contract. My 90 just turned over 131K on the odometer, and the only problems I have with it are a hard-shifting transmission, a door lock alarm switch problem (the alarm goes off sometimes, as the switch doesn't know i've unlocked the door before opening it...), and a sticky mode door for the heater. other than that, the car runs just like a top, and I couldn't be happier.
