Re: IML: Please WELCOME A New Member, Gary Bacon (1960)

Hi Gary.

I'm one of the folks that's absolutely nutty about the 1960 LeBaron.  I am most curious about the vinyl roof that you speak of.  I could be mistaken but as far as I know that was not an option unless you ordered the very exclusive and expensive Ghia Limo, and even then it was an option, being fitted to only a handful of cars.  If it came from the dealership, that would be very interesting.  If it did not, I'd me most interested to see photos of how they finished it at the bottom of the sail panel.

On your gauges:  there are wires that are soldered onto the arms, if memory serves.  If that wire were to fail, you'd have no electricity to the arm and it would go dark.  There are resources for EL on the club website if you need more help than you get here.

If you take apart your instrument clusters to investigate, I strongly advocate dis-connecting your battery.  The potential shock delivered by the EL power pack is a real attention getter, significantly stronger than the normal 12v.

I for one would like to see the photos and story of your car up on the website.  Please write me off-list at imperialist1960@xxxxxxxxx if you'd like to get them up to share with the club.

Self-Introduction: Purchased the '60 LeBaron from a collector in Rhode Island.  Also own a '53 Fleetwood 60 Special; '47 Cadillac convertible; '48 Mercury convertible; '49 Packard Custom Eight convertible.  Found this beautiful car and couldn't resist, but am having problems with the Electro-luminescent gauges.  Had all gauges redone but the after driving half an hour, the gas gauge and the oil pressure needles disappeared - just the needles, not the gradient scales.  Any suggestions?
