RE: IML: Wood Grain On Glove Compartment

If you read my write-up on the refurbishing of my 67 Crown on the IML site, I gave a step by step procedure for replacing the wood, along with the stain and glue materials and tools I used.  I have enough of the walnut left over to do another car – I’d hate to break up the whole batch, but if someone wants to take enough to do a whole car (67 4 door Crown), contact me off list and we’ll work something out.  Or, you can go to a hardwood dealer in your nearest large city and buy a whole 8 foot sheet of the wood – that’s what I did.  I think you can use the pictures on the IML site to compare the wood in my car to yours to make sure it is the same, but I think it is.  Since I’m color blind, it would be best if you compare it yourself.  Go to the “imperial by year” page, and click on DickB’s 67.

It is Claro Walnut.  Not sure if you will find it veneer form on Ebay or the Net but it's worth a try.  I recently restored (replaced is a better way of putting it) the Brazilian Rosewood in my '68 Eldorado.  If you've never worked with veneer, write me off list and I can walk you through the steps.  It's not brain surgery but there are some pitfalls to be aware of.  I can also send you some photos of the finished panels.  I'm very pleased with how they turned out.  I got my veneer from Ebay...

Club Members,

Does anyone have an idea on what kind of wood is on the glove compartment of my 1966

Chrysler Imperial.  It's faded and peeling.  Is there a vendor to use to replace it, or do I buy whatever kind of wood grain it is and install it myself.  Curious!!!!!
